Welcome to the Center for Asian Research at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. The Center promotes Asian studies at ASU and fosters greater understanding of Asia through a wide variety of research and outreach activities including teacher training, curriculum development, scholarly conferences, public symposia, film series, and exhibitions. The Center for Asian Research is part of the School of Global Studies and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

  • - The Center for Asian Research and Embry-Riddle Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) in Prescott received a grant from STARTALK for combined summer programs for K-12 teachers and students of Chinese. For more information click here.
  • ASU Chinese Language Flagship Partner Program
  • The Center for Asian Research is pleased to announce the receipt of The Language Flagship grant. The ASU program offers advanced Mandarin language learners an intensive two-year honors-level program to develop superior language skills while pursuing academic degrees in their major of choice.   • ASU partners with China’s Sichuan University to establish Confucius Institute in Tempe
    The Confucius Institute (CI) at Arizona State University was established in October, 2007 in partnership with the Office of Chinese Language Council International (HANBAN), and Sichuan University. The Institute seeks to promote Chinese language and culture studies in schools and to the general public in Arizona.     Friday, October 10- Saturday, October 11, 2008

    The Arizona State University Center for Asian Research and Department of Religious Studies, with the support of the Institute for Humanities Research, Center for Religion and Conflict, and the School of Human Evolution and Social Change are pleased to host its first annual Asian Studies Graduate Student Conference entitled “Nationalism, Culture, and Identity: New Boundaries in Asia.” This conference is an opportunity for graduate students from across the country to present their current research projects related to the topics of culture, nationalism, and identity. More broadly, the conference seeks to explore the meanings and applications of the term Asia. By juxtaposing these three areas of research, the conference looks to draw out original and intriguing questions pertaining to the study of Asia in general as well as specific locales.
