FALL 2008
October 24-26
Camp Tontozona
Payson, AZ
Join us for this weekend retreat that is held each semester in the mountains. Experience staff- and student-led workshops, meaningful dialogue, interactive exercises and self reflection. Participation in this retreat will expand your understanding of diversity, intergroup relations, systems of privilege/oppression, and social justice. You will connect with other students who have similar passions, and learn about making positive change in your community.
InVision is held off-campus each fall, with transportation, meals and accommodation provided (no cost to participants).
Fall 2008 Theme: Race, Ethnicity, Pride & Community
Description: During this year’s InVision retreat, participants will examine social/political dynamics of race and ethnicity in the United States. Conscious or not, our “skin color” and “ethnic background” are part of a greater social fabric. History matters. Current and historical immigrant stories – stories of assimilation and accommodation - are not the same. Diversity has always been at the center of this country’s making. Yet, its colorful tapestry and unique threads have not always been celebrated. This weekend will be a time to reflect upon our own histories. For some, that history has included privilege, access, and power. For others, history has not been so kind. We hope to bring people together from a vast array of backgrounds and experiences to talk with and learn from each other.
Benefits:
* Engage others from different racial and ethnic groups through small group activities, and informal exchanges
* Practice dialogue for increased understanding across diverse groups
* Self-reflect and explore personal and social identity
All food, lodging, and transportation are all provided for FREE
