Diversity Training Institute

Undergraduate courses nationwide are becoming increasingly diverse along multiple dimensions—race/ethnicity, age, gender, religion, nationality, ableness, etc. Instructors recognize the challenges inherent in creating an inclusive classroom. The IRC Diversity Training Institute creates a platform for shared understanding of theoretical and empirical concepts related to intergroup dynamics, and their relevance to the teaching and learning process. Additionally, participants gain practice in the use of diversity modules and are provided with a packet of diversity exercises that can be applied immediately in their classrooms. An overview of assessment concepts and instruments is also included.

The primary goals are to increase the knowledge, skill level, and confidence of classroom instructors as they relate to diversity dynamics and empirically grounded tools.

Units interested in sponsoring this training for their instructors should contact the IRC. The 4-component workshop can be scheduled in a single extended session or in multiple shorter sessions.
