Watch Byron Hurt’s riveting documentary examining issues of masculinity,
sexism, violence and homophobia in today’s hip-hop culture in preparation
for his February 20th, lecture.     

History, Hip-Hop, & American Culture
CHANDLER HAMILTON LIBRARY
Monday, February 11th @ 4:00pm
Featuring Dr. Matthew Whitaker, Associate Professor of History, this public
lecture will demonstrate that aspects of Hip Hop & Rap are arguably the
post-Civil Rights Era’s highest from of creative, extemporaneous, ever-
evolving form of communication.

The IRC will display a question and we need your answers.  Come
out to Cady Mall and tag your answer on our man-made graffiti wall.

Of the different elements of hip hop, graffiti art still has the most negative
image in the eyes of the world at large, yet there are graffiti artists whose
art has graduated to galleries. Come watch local graff artists do live work
work out on the ASU Mall to beats of some old school and current hip hop
jams!

Poetry Slam
STAGE ON HAYDEN LAWN
Thursday, February 14th @ 12PM – 2PM       
Pulling from the original meaning of hip hop as an
expression of conscious ideas, our 1st poetry slam will
showcase student and community poets.  We provide the stage, you provide your voice!
