The Emeritus Academy for Continued Learning is established as the instructional arm of the Emeritus College. Its mission is to organize and facilitate opportunities for College members to lecture and instruct in the community.

Instructional Opportunities

City of Tempe

The City of Tempe Community Services Department, through its Connections program, is sponsoring Emeritus Academy short courses during the 2008 - 2009 academic year. These courses are substantive in academic content, representing the level of upper-class general studies university courses with no essentail prerequisites. Class instruction occurs at the Tempe Public Library, Rural Road and Southern Avenue.

New Frontiers for Lifelong Learning

The East Valley-based New Frontiers invites members of the Emeritus College to present lectures or classes on topics of current educational value. This is a pro bono service. "New Frontiers for Lifelong Learning is an exciting educational opportunity for people in the East Valley. It is a self-directed, peer led organization of over 300 members, hosted by Mesa Community College." Classes are held at Mesa Community College Southern; Dobson Campus, MCC Brown, Country Club Center, and MCC at Red Mountain as well as several off campus sites. Scottsdale Community College Lifelong Learning

The Scottsdale Community College Lifelong Learning Program has a student population of retired, well-traveled professors, teachers, doctors, businesspeople, professional people, and so on, who are very interested in challenging, non-credit classes:  cinema, literature, global issues, current events, languages, reader's theatre, world religions, arts & humanities series, etc. It utilizes Scottsdale College faculty, active and retired, as well as the retired professional people, but is looking for new classes and teachers.  Members of the Emeritus College who might be interested in teaching in this program, should contact John T. Thaxton, at john.thaxton@sccmail.maricopa.edu. The program offers a modest stipend of $20 per hour.

Paradise Valley Community Center

Dean Gordon was contacted about offering colloquium presentations at the Paradise Valley Community Center. Three such colloquia presentations were developed for program and will be presented Spring Semester 2008.
