Transfer Policies for In-State and Out-of-State Coursework

These pages provide information on the transfer of coursework to ASU. While most courses taken at a regionally accredited college or university are transferable, many issues impact how courses apply to a given degree program. As a prospective transfer student, you are strongly advised to obtain the guidance of the academic advisor at your current institution, or if you've received an offer of admission from ASU, with an ASU academic advisor. ASU does not evaluate transfer credits in advance of an offer of admission.

General Transfer Policies

  • Admission requirements
  • ASU accepts college-level (not remedial) courses in which you have earned a grade of C (4.0=A) or better from regionally accredited institutions.
  • It is up to the college of your major to determine how transferable courses fulfill degree requirements for your ASU major.
  • You must apply, have official transcripts sent to ASU, and be admitted to the university before an academic advisor can evaluate your transcripts.
  • You may transfer up to 64 credits from a regionally accredited two-year college. And, while there is no limit to the number of courses that you may transfer from a regionally accredited, four-year institution, university policies determine the number and type of ASU credits you need to earn your ASU degree. Every candidate for the baccalaureate degree is required to earn a minimum of 30 semester hours in resident credit courses at the ASU campus from which the student will graduate.

Evaluate My Courses

If you have taken, or plan to take courses from an Arizona public community college you may use our search and planning tools to determine the transferability of your courses. Go to Tools for Evaluating my Courses

If you have taken or plan to take courses from an institution outside of Arizona, review our General Studies Guidelines, Academic Programs requirements and course descriptions to determine whether the courses you selected are similar to ASU courses. Go to Tools for Evaluating my Courses

General Studies Requirements

All students enrolled in an ASU baccalaureate degree program must successfully complete a minimum of 35 semester hours of approved General Studies courses. Do your transfer courses meet ASU General Studies Requirements?
