Students on the Tour:
Feedback from students on the tour...
It is the Friday before spring break and our classes just ended. We head home and pack our bags. Many would assume that a group of 10 students might be headed to Mexico or Vegas, but guess again. Ten Navajo students from ASU spent their entire spring break encouraging and motivating high school students throughout the Navajo reservation to go to college.
Several ASU offices, including Office of President-American Indian Initiatives, Indigenous Teacher Preparation Program, Del E. Webb’s Construction in Indian Country Program, Barrett Honors College, ASU’s New College, and the Multicultural Student Services, were all on hand to spread the word about ASU and the basic importance of attending college. - Adam
“Many of them (high schools students) were very much interested in going on to college, and that was always nice to see.”-Tiffany
”The rez tour was out of this world! It was just so much fun…I have always dreamed of helping the kids from my community and who have no idea what to do with their life…It was such a great experience.”—Dee
Note: The AISES ASU student chapter also hosts a Spring Break Rez Tour and is organized by its members. The NN College Tour is supported by Undergraduate Admissions and the Office of the President-AII. Both groups coordinate the scheduling of schools and communities so that there is a wider range covered.
