ASU Fall Welcome
Fall Welcome is your opportunity to get acquainted with the campus, learn ASU traditions and become familiar with ASU services and resources. At Fall Welcome you will have the chance to interact with other new students and families and meet ASU faculty and staff by taking advantage of the many programs designed specifically for you. Fall Welcome consists of programs for new students, family members and guests.
Fall Welcome will begin Wednesday, August 19, and continue through the week. Most parent and family activities will conclude on Friday evening, August 21. For travel planning, see general residence hall move-in information. Students' specific date and time for residence hall move-in will be available by July 17.

The Graduate College and the Office of National Scholarships in Barrett the Honors College sponsor workshops for students interested in applying for the Javits, National Science Foundation, Ford, and Harriett Jenkins (NASA) 3-year graduate fellowships. These workshops are designed for graduating seniors, first- and second-year graduate students. Faculty mentors are also welcome to attend the workshops. Graduate students who have successfully competed for these awards in the past and some of their faculty mentors will be available at these workshops to talk about the proposal process and answer questions.

2009-2010 American Indian Construction Management Grant Application
Available to American Indian students enrolled in the Del E. Webb School of Construction. Award amount will vary ($1,000-$2,000) per year depending on academic status. There is no deadline for the grant, but the sooner the application and required materials are submitted the sooner funding will be awarded.

August Schedule
Each week will feature a new round of programs:
- Beginning on Sunday, August 2nd the ASU Labriola Center video and the Simon Ortiz lecture with Ned Blackhawk at the Heard Museum will air.
- The week of Aug 9 is a Dustinn Craig interview from a KAET Horizons episode followed by his film “Our Home, Our Stories” and also the Simon Ortiz lecture with Wilma Mankiller at the Heard Museum.
- The week of Aug 16th will be two programs, “Urban Indian” (produced by Cronkite students Carly Campo and Brandon Donahoo) and the independent film “Spirit Warriors: A Legacy of the Navajo Veteran”.
- The week of Aug 23rd: Two lectures from the Stabilizing Indiginous Laguages Symposium. “Languages, Fruits and Vegetables”, and “Our Language and Our Way of Life is Our Strength”.
- The week of Aug 30th is Gerald TaiaiakeAlfred’s lecture at the Heard Museum, “Resurgence of Traditional Ways of Being”.

What: 10th Annual Native American Children’s Christmas Benefit Concert
When: Saturday, December 5th, 6-10 pm
Where: Arizona State University, Memorial Union, Ventana Room 241, Tempe, AZ
The Benefit Concert is a community effort for the past nine years led by the Phoenix Native American community. Donated toys and clothing goes to homeless or indigent Native American children.
The Concert is more than an evening of music... it's about giving and sharing. It's also about community building and empowerment. All musicians donate their time, the lighting & sound equipment has been donated, and many hours of volunteer time. This is truly a community event. Come out to enjoy good music and donate a toy or clothing.

Do You Remember When is Postcommodity's site-specific installation and intervention that makes up the first part of the Native Confluence: Sustaining Cultures project spanning the fall 2009 season at the Ceramics Research Center (CRC).
Postcommodity is an interdisciplinary Indigenous artist collective comprised of Raven Chacon (Navajo), Kade L. Twist (Cherokee), Steven Yazzie (Laguna/Navajo) and Nathan Young (Delaware/Kiowa/Pawnee). Postcommodity works to advance Indigenous cultural self-determination and decolonization within the global climate of instability, ethnocentric violence and neoliberalism.

Answering the Call: Veteran’s Day Short Film Contest
We are looking for short films (four minutes of less) about Native American Veterans that illustrate what participation in the military means to Native people. We are looking for all types of non-fiction films—documentary, experimental, animation, etc. Films selected will be shown on Veteran’s Day for a special program in our museum. First Prize $500 - Second & Third Prizes: NMAI Pendleton Blanket - Entries must be received by October 18, 2009.
