Greetings Fellow Alums!

Dear Native American Alumni,

On behalf of the NAAC, I would like to share the following list of events scheduled, or are in the planning stages to be hosted by various Native American programs and/or groups affiliated with ASU.  In an effort to increase our visibility around the various campuses and in the community, we (the NAAC) will be represented at each of the events listed below.  We encourage your participation either as a spectator, participant, or join us as a volunteer.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. 

March 2009

March 25 --- Native American March Music & Marketplace
The ASU West Native American Events Committee invites you to participate in a forum highlighting successful women and their life experiences, including how education has helped them attain their goals.  Featured panel members include: Elena Mitchell, Karen Ramirez, Debbie Tewa, Sherril Tomita, and Jacqueline Woods.  For more information, please click here (PDF) or call (602) 543-5306.

April 2009

April 17-19 --- 23rd Annual ASU Pow-Wow
The ASU Pow Wow Committee is proud to present the 23rd Annual Pow Wow at ASU on April 17, 18, 19, 2009 as part of the Native American Culture Week activities on campus. 

On behalf of the Committee, you are invited to the Pow Wow and encouraged to participate as a volunteer at this three day event. A lot of planning and effort goes into this annual gathering.

Dancers and singers from all over the U.S. and Canada will be competing for prize money at the Spring Pow Wow. The Pow Wow at ASU has become an honored and notorious event on the pow wow circuit. Again, I would like to invite you to take part in sharing our cultural heritage and diversity with other Native American students at ASU, the ASU community and the surrounding population.

April 18 ---- Native American Alumni Chapter (NAAC) Spring Breakfast
Back by popular demand.... this year, the NAAC will bring back the annual Spring breakfast to reunite Native American alumni of all ages.  The Spring breakfast will take place on the morning of Saturday, April 18, 2009.  More details forthcoming with the location and time of the event.  All alumni are welcome to join us for an informal gathering, before heading over to the 23rd Annual ASU pow-wow. 

April 20 --- Graduating Seniors Forum hosted by the NAAC
The NAAC will host a forum on April 20th for all Native American graduating seniors of ASU.  The forum will include, but not be limited to an alumni panel, preparing for graduate school, financing your graduate school, a career services representative, and of course the NAAC.  The event is scheduled to be held on the early evening of Monday, April 20, 2009 in the Memorial Union, located at the ASU Tempe Campus.  More details forthcoming. 

April 23 --- ASU Alumni Grad Blast
GRAD BLAST! Thursday, April 23rd, 3:30pm - 6:00pm, Old Main Lawn, Tempe Campus
The ASU Alumni Association is hosting a Grad Blast on April 23rd to celebrate the end of the semester with the graduating seniors. This carnival event will feature food, games, prizes & a TRAPEZE! ASU Alumni Constituency Leaders will be given an interactive role in this unique event. This will be a great opportunity to connect with the soon-to-be alumni who will be looking to get involved in your Chapters and Clubs after Graduation. Please check your schedules to ensure that you will be available to participate in this exciting event.

May 16 --- Spring 2009 American Indian Convocation
The American Indian Student Support Services and the American Indian Convocation Committee welcome all to Arizona State University to recognize, honor and celebrate the success of American Indian graduates. This is a time to share the joy of our student's achievement and a time to reflect on efforts by the students, families, friends, tribal leaders, and staff. NOTE: In support of the Native American Indian Student Convocation, the NAAC continues to be a part of this celebration as they recognize and honor all graduating seniors with certificates of recognition.  Each year a handful of Native American alumni volunteer to help with the celebration event in a variety of ways; this year is no exception to the need of your assistance.  NAAC will host a table during the reception for distribution of alumni materials, membership forms, and information regarding ways you can stay connected to ASU.  To be a part of this wonderful event, please contact Vickie Baldwin, NAAC President at Vickie.baldwin@asu.edu of via phone at (602) 496-1385.

An exciting business collaboration, a potential new client, a job opportunity or simply, making a new friend...many good things can come your way when you go out and meet new people, especially when they're also Sun Devils! The ASU Alumni Association's new Maroon & Gold Professionals is a network for ASU graduates in the working world, providing opportunities for Sun Devils to connect with Sun Devils! This is a great opportunity to meet other alums and expand your network. Bring plenty of business cards and be prepared for an evening of great food, fun and networking.

NAAC General Meetings:
All Native American alumni are invited to attend NAAC general meetings to hear about and get involved with NAAC activities and/or events. You are welcome to join fellow alums, as we engage in discussions about involving alum stay connected to ASU and serve as role models in our respective communities. We are always seeking volunteers to assist in coordinating events and brainstorming for new ideas and initiatives. Come join us and hear about what NAAC is about and ideas we have in mind.
