Course Description:
This course will teach students how to research Federal Indian law and tribal law issues. In addition to providing instruction about how to use particular research tools and sources, this course will teach students how to analyze research problems and how and why to use particular types of sources in their legal analysis. Students will have several research assignments to complete, and the instructors will provide feedback on each assignment. Instructors: Beth DiFelice, Tamara Herrera, and Alison Ewing.

PRESS RELEASE: Essay Contest on Patriotism in Indian Country

All high-school aged students (grades 9-12) from tribal, BIE, public, private and parochial schools from all 50 states are invited to participate. Up to 10 winners will each receive $2,500 in cash prizes.

The contest deadline is January 23, 2009. Contest details are posted on the Reconnecting The Circle ("RTC") website.

Up to 10 winning students. $2,500 each in cash prizes. Reconnecting The Circle® announces its third National High School Essay Contest to be held from November 1, 2008 – January 23, 2009.

This year's essay question asks, "Why is it important to understand patriotism in Indian Country?" and prompts students to research Native American patriots, as well as explore their own American communities.

Morris K. Udall Scholarship & Native American Congressional Internship

The Morris K. Udall Scholarship is awarded to 80 sophomore and junior undergrads who have demonstrated a commitment to Tribal Public Policy, Native Health Care, or the Environment (you must be a Native American/Alaska Native to be eligible in the first two categories). Application Due Date: March 3, 2009

The Native American Congressional Internship is a ten-week summer program in Washington, DC, for Native American and Alaska Native undergraduate, graduate and law students. Students are placed in Congressional offices, committees, or select agencies to experience an insider’s view of the federal government and learn more about the federal government’s trust relationship with tribes. Applications Due Date: January 30, 2009
