Instructional Council (IC)
From the Instructional Council Handbook:
Based on the close affiliation with ASU, Maricopa has the opportunity to review ASU New Course Proposals before they are submitted for approval at ASU’s Curriculum meetings.
Maricopa faculty who serve on ASU's Tempe campus and West campus curriculum and general studies committees depend on the IC members to review new university curriculum proposals. The timeline for review of course proposals, whether hard copy or electronic, is two weeks (14 calendar days) from when the form is sent. The IC
The IC chair's and council's responsibilities are outlined below.
IC Chair’s Responsibility:
- The IC Chair will be contacted by UCR when a new university course proposal is received by ASU.
- Copies of the proposal/proposals will be sent to the IC Chair and the Maricopa representative on the ASU committee via intercampus mail.
- The IC Chair shares the proposal(s) with their IC, and asks for input.
- The IC Chair relays any concerns to the appropriate Maricopa faculty representative on the ASU committee and the University and College Relations Department.
IC's Responsibility:
- The proposal is shared with the IC to determine the impact on Maricopa.
- The IC evaluates the quality and appropriateness of the content of a curriculum proposal and the impacts to disciplines that have been assigned to it.
- Using the Upper/Lower Division Criteria, the IC determines if the new course is at the appropriate level.
- The IC is responsible for developing and processing any new courses, course modifications, and/or course deletions needed as a result of university curriculum action.
