William Pitt Root

Former Teamster, bouncer, writer-in-residence at Amherst, and NYU, translated into 20 languages, William Pitt Root has held Guggenheim, Stegner, NEA, and US/UK fellowships. While Tucson's Poet Laureate, he commuted to New York City weekly to teach at Hunter College. The New York Times calls his poems 'marvelous …rangy, virile, startling for their sophistication, pungency and force.' His current book is White Boots: New and Selected Poems of the West.
