Getting Around ASU & Tempe
Parking
The following is a selection of area lots; please note that these lots fill up quickly.
- ASU Fulton Center Parking Structure: University Drive and College Avenue. $2/hr, $8 maximum per day. 3 minute walk.
- Parking Structure #1: Lemon Street and Normal Street on ASU Campus: $5 maximum per day. 10 minute walk through campus to conference site.
- 7th Street and College Avenue: $5 maximum per day; public parking. 5 minute walk.
- 7th Street and Myrtle: $4 for entire day; small church parking lot. 5-10 minute walk.
- 7th Street and Myrtle: $5 maximum per day; The Brickyard public parking. 5-10 minute walk.
- Ash and University: $5 maximum per day; Centerpoint Parking Garage. 15 minute walk.

Disabled Parking
Public parking is always free for the disabled at the meters and in the parking lots and garages operated by the City of Tempe. Simply park your car and make sure your state-issued disabled placard is clearly visible for parking enforcement. The closest City of Tempe parking is on the NW corner of University and Forest next to the Arches retail building.

*Do not take chances—The City of Tempe and ASU Police/Parking Administration will ticket or tow cars found at expired meters as well as cars that have been illegally parked. The Piper Center cannot reimburse guests or participants for parking ticket expenses.

Getting Around ASU & Tempe
While much of downtown Tempe is within walking distance of ASU, the FLASH (Free Local Area Shuttle), offers another free and easy way to explore a broader area of Tempe/ASU, including Mill Avenue, Tempe’s main commercial district. On Mill Avenue you can take full advantage of a multitude of dining and shopping options.
There are several FLASH buses and routes, running all around ASU and Tempe. If you wish to get to the Writers Conference site, you will want to ride the FLASH to University Drive bus, which stops at College Avenue. This stop is a two-minute walk away from most Writers Conference venues. Buses operate about every ten minutes Monday through Friday (traffic congestion and high passenger loads may delay FLASH at peak times).
If you get on the wrong bus or are confused about the route, please ask your bus driver for assistance. They are typically friendly and more than willing to help. Please also keep in mind that the many FLASH buses loop around the campus and downtown Tempe in different directions, so if you end up on the wrong bus you will eventually end up back where you started.
