ASU Writers Conference | Restaurants & Conveniences

Besides the multitude of meal options at ASU's Memorial Union and across the street on University Drive, the Piper Center has partnered with Atlasta Catering at the University Club to provide more of a “center” to the Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writers Conference on the ASU Campus. Atlasta Catering is the exclusive caterer of the University Club, the building directly adjacent to the Piper Writers House.

Throughout the conference, Atlasta will provide Writers Conference participants with the opportunity to purchase fresh lunches to be enjoyed in a covered tent just outside of the Piper House. In the University Club Bistro, Atlasta will also sell pastries, coffee, beverages, and will host an afternoon happy hour.

For the 2006 conference, we endeavor to create more opportunities for participants to network with each other. To that end, we will set up The Gathering Spot—a tent just outside of the Piper House where lunches can be enjoyed (courtesy of Atlasta) and where participants can sit at tables and talk throughout the conference day. During the lunch hours and perhaps later in the afternoon, musicians will play in the tent to supply a quiet but festive atmosphere. The Piper Writers House will continue to serve as the nerve center for the conference, with book sales, information, and a place to sit indoors and chat with new friends.

More specific information will become available as the conference nears, and will include menu options and prices. The general breakdown will be as follows:

In the University Club Bistro:

From 6am to 10am, Wednesday through Saturday, you will be able to purchase coffee, espresso beverages, and fresh breakfast pastries.

From 11am to 2pm, Wednesday through Saturday, you will be able to purchase boxed lunches or entrance to an outdoor chef’s table buffet (orders must be placed before 10am on a given day, at the Piper Center registration/information table). In late afternoon/evening, Wednesday through Saturday, Atlasta will offer a happy hour menu with light appetizers and a cash bar.

If you will need to access the internet and you are visiting from out of town, you may find it most convenient to log on to your personal computer in your room or at your hotel’s business center. You will only be able to utilize computers on the ASU campus if you are a currently enrolled student or a currently employed staff or faculty member. You may also visit the following locations:
