Michelle Iwen

Michelle IwenMichelle Iwen holds a PhD in Critical and Cultural Theory and an MFA in Creative Writing. She is currently working on a book project titled, Women Writing Madness: Reason and Emotion in the Long Eighteenth Century. Splitting her interests between the topic of creative writing, gender and sexuality, and narrative medicine, Michelle has published research on medicine in literature, gendered death practices, women writers on madness, mental illness in mystery novels, and gendered literary bodies. Primarily a fiction writer, Michelle's creative work centers around the American Southwest, touching on both contemporary and historical themes of displacement and belonging set on the periphery of society. Michelle currently teaches at Mesa Community College and serves as an Academic Professional for the ASU Origins Project, an interdisciplinary research program.
