Barbara Peters "retired" to Arizona after careers in academic libraries and the law and opened The Poisoned Pen in 1989 as a way to indulge her passion for crime. It has since grown into the largest mystery bookstore in the United States. She also is founder of Poisoned Pen Press, a separate corporation publishing both original crime fiction and reprints.
