About

Hayden's Ferry Review's mission is to be considered one of the prominent literary journals in the international literary community by providing a forum to showcase the voices of emerging and established talents in creative writing and visual art in a format that is not tied down to particular styles, schools of thought, aesthetics, or ideologies; and without compromising our commitment to and support of emerging artists.

At Hayden's Ferry Review, we believe the artistic and cultural conversations between the work of established and emerging artists figure prominently in the future of written and visual art, and we are enthusiastic about identifying and supporting artists whose work we feel is of significant cultural merit. Only a small portion of our publication is solicited from established authors; most published works are chosen from the thousands of unsolicited manuscripts of poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and art we receive each year; and every submission to HFR is carefully considered by our staff.

Because our editorship changes annually, we are not tied down to particular styles, schools of thought, aesthetics, or ideologies. In fact, since we often rely on two editors per genre, each issue represents a larger collage of work than other publications. Additionally, editors often choose to explore particular topics or interests in special sections, giving artists further opportunity for involvement with our publication.

HFR is also committed to constantly expanding and improving its distribution in an effort to widen the reach of our emerging artists’ voices both nationally and internationally. It is the mission of HFR to be considered one of the prominent literary journals in the international writing community without compromising our commitment to and support of emerging artists.

Among the writers and artists who have graced the pages of the magazine are: Rita Dove, Joseph Heller, T.C. Boyle, Ron Carlson, Norman Dubie, John Updike, Raymond Carver, Richard Ford, Yusef Komunyakaa, Joel-Peter Witkin, Ai, David St. John, Gloria Naylor, Tess Gallagher, Ken Kesey, Naomi Shihab Nye, and Allen Ginsberg.
