Site Selection Criteria
Schools and Community Organizations can participate in the Leaps and Bounds program in one of two ways: 1) Host Site or 2) Sustainability Site. If a site chooses to participate as a host site, then ASU will fund and deliver one set of the “World as a Classroom Workshop Series” at their site. If a site chooses to be a Sustainability Site, then the site is responsible for the funding and delivery of the workshop series at their site.
ASU will fund and operate approximately 8 sets of the “World as a Classroom Workshop Series at 8 new school and community sites (host sites) each year. During this time, the school or community center serves as a host site for the program. Sites can only serve as a host site one time. All schools from each school district can only serve as a host site for the program funded by ASU one time.
Sites that are interested in continuing the program after they have served as a host site can do so at their own leisure (as a Sustainability Site) with their own individual funding as often as they like as long as they are willing to complete a Memo of Understanding and agree to be a partner with the program. All Leaps and Bounds materials are copyright protected and cannot be altered in any way. All sites interested in continuing the program on their own must be willing to notify ASU of all workshop series conducted at their site and accordingly provide them with all necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
The site selection criteria for the host sites for the Leaps and Bounds program are somewhat flexible. Sites must be a low-income school or community center or must serve families of underserved needs. Sites can be a Title School, but this is not a requirement. Sites must be located in the Phoenix metropolitan area. There are no selection criteria for Sustainability Sites (see Module III for more information on the sustainability of the program).

Most importantly, in order to be a host site, sites must be willing to agree to the following responsibilities:
- The site must provide ASU with a room to accommodate up to 40 people during each workshop.
- The site must provide a safe space for staff to keep supplies (locked-up) over the one-month workshop series.
- The site must recruit families that will attend the workshop series (ASU will fund up to 15 families per workshop series).
- The site must find families to complete the control questionnaires (10 per site).
- The site must find a staff member or parent that would be willing to translate the workshops for us. Leaps and Bounds can provide a stipend for this assistance if needed.
Sites should also be willing to send at least one member from their site to the Train-the-Trainer workshop session. Contact Courtney Lonergan Geer at leapsandbounds@asu.edu or 480-965-6221 for a list of upcoming trainings. |
