I - Recruiting

How can I recruit students for my department under the ASU/CONACYT fellowships?
There are several options for faculty interested in recruiting:
  • Participate in info sessions in Mexico.
  • Mail and email information about the graduate and fellowship programs to contacts and partners in Mexico.
  • Identify media, fairs or other opportunities in your field of study to reach potential candidates.

How can I conduct info sessions?
There are two ways to participate. Interested faculty can organize and hold info sessions alone or join efforts with ASU. In this second case, please contact the ASU's Pan American Initiatives at the Administration Building, Room A121, at 1- (480) 965-0880. (Go to top)
Are there any recruiting or promotional materials already available?
Pan American Initiatives has produced a brochure in Spanish on the ASU/CONACYT fellowship program. This brochure can be distributed along with your own department's promotional material for recruiting purposes. III - ASU/CONACYT Fellowship specifics

What does the ASU/CONACYT fellowship cover for the students?
The fellowship offers students:
  • Tuition
  • Any mandatory fee
  • $1,000 USD monthly stipend
  • Health insurance aid ($715 USD for single and $1,970 USD for married students per year)
During the first three years of the program, CONACYT pays ASU for the students' tuition and mandatory fees. The $1,000 USD monthly stipend as well as the health insurance aid is paid directly to the students through a bank deposit. In the last two years of the program (usually in the case of doctoral programs), ASU will cover students' costs by offering them a graduate assistantship. ASU assistantships cover tuition, health insurance and salary on a bi-monthly basis. (Go to top)
How do the students pay tuition?
Students enrolled under the CONACYT agreement can register and hold their classes through the ASURITE system. ASU will bill CONACYT for tuition, which will be paid directly to ASU. Students receive directly the monthly stipend and health insurance funding from CONACYT. (Go to top)
What is the application cycle?

Are the CONACYT students eligible for an RA/TA positions?
Yes, CONACYT students at ASU are eligible for RA/TA positions. The acceptance of a RA/TA position will not affect the full tuition, health insurance or stipend paid by CONACYT for the first three years of their program. However, according to the ASU/CONACYT agreement, ASU will cover the fellowship costs for the remaining two years of their program by offering the students RA/TA positions. ASU departments will then pay the stipend associated with those positions. At this point, CONACYT will cover the salary difference, if this is less than $1,000 (the stipend CONACYT pays for the first 3 years). Students should be aware of this and plan accordingly. (Go to top)
What are the students' responsibilities for maintaining the fellowship?
