According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the solid waste generated in the U.S. in 2018 was 292.4 million tons — or 4.9 pounds per person per day. Of that, only 32% was recycled. In recognition of Earth Day on April 22, ASU experts explain how confusion over recycling rules is contributing to the problem and what can be done.

The recent update to ASU's general studies curriculum requirements has a number of changes from previous iterations — most notably the new Quantitative Reasoning, Governance and Civic Engagement, American Institutions, and Sustainability categories.
