ASU hosts Four Corners Physics conference
This weekend, eminent physicists
from Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico will converge on Tempe.
The ASU Department of Physics and Astronomy
is playing host to the 2003 Four Corners Section Meeting of the American
Physical Society Oct. 24 - 25.
The general public is invited to attend
the meeting's keynote lecture, given by Professor Venkatesh Narayanamurti,
dean of engineering and applied sciences at Harvard University.
Narayanamurti
will address the future of physics. This plenary lecture, "Whither Physics
in the 21st Century," takes place at 8 p.m., Oct. 24, Main Campus Physical
Sciences H-wing, room 150. The section meeting is otherwise closed to
the public.
Physicists and students attending the conference will address physics
of every scale - from the structure of the universe to quantum mechanics
and quarks.
In addition to physics, meeting attendees will also discuss
the teaching of physics. The meeting is preceded by a special conference
on teacher preparation in physics, organized by the American Association
of Physics Teachers (AAPT). This short conference takes place 8 a.m.
to noon, Oct. 24.
