ASU to host third Academic Bowl

ASU will kick off the third annual Academic Bowl with competitions beginning with opening round matches October 14-15. The university-wide competition will culminate with the semifinal and final matches October 30.

The Academic Bowl is an academic competition intended to highlight ASU's shining stars - the students.

The event features 16 teams of undergraduate students competing for college pride and scholarship money. Four-member teams compete in a question-and-answer format on a wide range of subjects, including current events, history, science, sports and culture.

  • Katherine K. Herberger College of the Arts
  • W. P. Carey School of Business
  • College of Design
  • Mary Lou Fulton College of Education
  • School of Educational Innovation and Teacher Preparation
  • Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering
  • School of Global Management and Leadership
  • College of Human Services
  • New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences
  • Walter Cronkite School of Journalism
  • College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • Morrison School of Management and Agribusiness
  • College of Nursing and Healthcare Innovation
  • College of Teacher Education and Leadership
  • University College

Each member of the four-person winning team will be awarded a scholarship prize of up to $4,500, and the winning team's alternate members (up to four) will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. The college also will win the right to display the President's Cup trophy for the next year.

The College of Liberal Arts in Sciences is the bowl's defending champion, after bringing home the cup in 2007. In the competition's inaugural year, 2006, the team from the Ira Fulton School of Engineering hoisted the championship trophy.

The Academic Bowl is co-sponsored by the offices of Public Affairs and Student Affairs.

All matches will be be held on the Tempe campus. Teams and matchups are to be determined. The schedule includes:

  • October 14 - Opening Round - MU PIMA
  • October 15 - Opening Round - MU PIMA
  • October 22 - Quarter Finals - MU PIMA
  • October 30 - Semi Finals/Final - KAET
