Civil Engineering books are on the 3rd floor of Noble Science and Engineering Library in the TA call number area. Reference books are kept in the Science Reference Collection on the first floor.

  • To find books about civil engineering in general, use SUBJECT HEADINGS search:  Civil engineering
  • To find books about a specific topic use the KEYWORD search. Example: bridge* and construct*

Encyclopedias

  1. Access Science  
    This is the online version of the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology. 
    One can search by keyword or by topic. To search by topic, select "Engineering and Materials" to retrieve the list of engineering subjects. Access Science is a good place to start for some general information on a topic.

    A beautifully illustrated history with diagrams and photographs of engineering accomplishments. Includes some short biographies and a chronology of British inventions.

  4. The reference guide to famous engineering landmarks of the world : bridges, tunnels, dams, roads, and other structures.   
    TA15 .B42 1998. SCI REF
    This reference contains over 600 famous engineering accomplishments, with over 100 illustrations. It also contains some biographies and a chronology.


Journals and Journal Articles

Civil Engineering journals are on the 2nd floor of Noble Science and Engineering Library, mainly in the TA call number.
  • Current issues and volumes in microformat are kept on the west side of the floor in the Current Periodicals and Microforms Room.
  • Older volumes are kept on the east side of the floor. Some older volumes are kept in storage; request these items from either the Noble Library Circulation Desk or Noble Library Information Desk.

    Covers approximately 5,300 scientific and technical journals, however, engineering topics are not covered extensively until after 1990.

    Doctoral dissertations and masters' theses; masters' theses are included since 1988.

    "A collection of information resources recommended by librarians at various GWLA (Greater Western Library Alliance) institutions for researchers, instructors, and students in the area of biological engineering.
