ASU University Libraries: Strategic Plan


Although strategic planning has been taking place at the ASU Libraries for many years, in 1996 a different approach was initiated: the Customer-Driven Enterprise. Beginning with UL 2000, the strategic plan reflected a shift from expert-based decision making to a partnership with our customers. As stated on the preface, we pledged to "seek a major paradigm change, expanding our focus beyond the business at hand to encompass the reason for that business, the customer."


Since that shift took place, survey data has been accessible to us from various sources and it is used to form the basis for many of the strategies and baseline numbers in UL 2003.


The "Vision 2000" which we formed during the 1996 planning retreat and was recently reconfirmed by the staff holds that the customer is at the center of the enterprise and quality service is at the heart of our consciousness; we continue our efforts to build and preserve that part of the intellectual heritage for which we are responsible; we are agile, versatile, and a great place to work.
