Selected Internet Sites
Yahoo/U.S. History/Women's History
Yahoo is my search engine of choice when I begin an Internet Search. Its History sections are excellent. Because of its subject and hierarchical structure, it is the closest to a Library of the Internet.
American Women's History
American Women's History provides citations to print and Internet reference sources, as well as
to selected large primary source collections. The guide also provides information about the tools
researchers can use to find additional books, articles, dissertations, and primary sources.
WestWeb: Making It Their Own
This section of WestWeb provides information about Women in the West.
Under Texts you will find examples of primary texts, such as women's
diaries and literary works, or secondary texts, such as critical essays or
historical studies. Under Resources, you will find biographies of Western
women as well as other resources...
Women of the West: And Every Day Life Along the Trail
These pages will try to describe one such trail--the Overland Trail--how and why it began in 1862 under the direction of Ben Holladay, and how the wagon wheels and hoof beats were abruptly silenced in 1869 with the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad--closing an era that will be never forgotten. The somewhat romantic introduction to this site notwithstanding, there are excellent sections on " Women of the West" and "Diaries, Memoirs and Letters" among others.
