SCOPE AND CONTENTS: Prince Kinmochi Saionji was the last of the Genro, elder statesmen who counseled the emperor. During the period between world wars, Saionji observed the rise of a militaristic, ultra-nationalistic Japan. Baron Kumao Harada, his private secretary, kept an informal diary of the statements of the prince, as well as Harada’s duties as liaison between Saionji and other government officials. SCOPE AND CONTENTS: In October 1945, the Japanese Government was directed to prepare a complete history of World War II in the Pacific. This history developed as a series of operational monographs, which were written by former officers of the Imperial Army and Navy. Some of these monographs were prepared entirely from memory, while others were compiled from material contained in diaries or directives. These monographs were later edited by personnel of various offices of the Army. Included with this series is Japanese Night Combat Study (Microfilm D 1.24:J77x).
