DECEMBER 1945-JANUARY 1947.  CALL NUMBER: Center for Research Libraries (Request at Interlibrary Loan).  NUMBER OF REELS/FICHE: 50 R       INDEX OR GUIDE: Guide available.  SCOPE AND CONTENTS: President Truman appointed General Marshall a special envoy to China with instructions to arrange a cease-fire agreement between Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist troops and Chinese Communist forces.  General Marshall returned to become Secretary of State without having reached a solution to the conflict.  These papers are sources for studying the Chinese political and military situation following World War II, as well as U. S. policy during this period.  Contains minutes of Marshall's meetings with Chiang Kai-shek, Chou En-Lai and other leaders and reports and memoranda prepared for Marshall by U. S. diplomatic personnel.  Reveals American perceptions of events in China and provides insights into the failure of postwar U. DICTIONARY CATALOGUE OF THE BYZANTINE COLLECTION OF THE DUMBARTON OAKS RESEARCH LIBRARY.  CALL NUMBER: Microfilm 9047  NUMBER OF REELS/FICHE: 12 R  SCOPE AND CONTENTS: A film of the library's card catalog, which contains 172,000 cards.  Author, title and subject cards are inter-filed in one alphabet.  The 84,000 volume collection contains books on all aspects of Byzantine and medieval civilization, as well as the late Graeco-roman world, early and medieval Islam and the world of the Orthodox Slavs.  The library contains literary and historical texts in the original languages, including primary sources in Greek, Latin, Coptic, Syriac, Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Georgian, Armenian and Old Slavonic.  In addition to studies in political, social and economic history, there is a large section of titles on art, archaeology, church history and liturgy, as well as canon and civil law.  Also covered are the auxiliary disciplines of epigraphy, numismatics, palaeography and papyrology.  This catalog may be used as a comprehensive bibliography on this subject, to identify relevant titles, to verify bibliographical information and to locate books to borrow on interlibrary loan.
