8. SACKS MICROFILM COLLECTION.      CALL NUMBER: Arizona Historical Foundation Microfilm      NUMBER OF REELS/FICHE: 303 R  INDEX OR GUIDE: Typed guide in loose-leaf notebook.  There is also a place name index on 3x5 cards.  SCOPE AND CONTENTS: A large collection of source material for Arizona and Western history.  Arranged in three sections: 1) Miscellaneous; 2) Newspapers, listed by title, with dates included; 3) National Archives Record Groups.  The guide noted above lists these and a fourth section consisting of a numerical index to the microfilm.  Much of the material was filmed from U. S. and local government archives and deals with subjects such as the army in Arizona and New Mexico; Indian affairs; Civil War; mining; and other topics.  Also contains manuscripts and theses.  The National Archives section includes material dealing with Arizona selected from various record groups and may duplicate other holdings to some degree.  This list should be consulted in the event ASU appears to lack a desired National Archives film.  SUBJECTS: Arizona - History; New Mexico; United States - Indians; 19c; West

Is a notebook containing the printed guide to this collection and a detailed calendar with contents notes and lists of applicants (successful and unsuccessful) for each office.  SCOPE AND CONTENTS: Information relating to appointments of governor, secretary, surveyor-general, land office registrars and Indian agency officials.  The records are arranged by office or name of applicant.  Includes letters of support for some applicants.  SUBJECTS: Arizona - Territory; United States -History; 19c; 20c

10. U. S. DEPT. OF THE INTERIOR. TERRITORIAL PAPERS, ARIZONA, 1868-1913.      CALL NUMBER: Arizona Historical Foundation Microfilm. Record Group 48 - M429.  NUMBER OF REELS/FICHE: 8 R INDEX OR GUIDE: Reel 1 contains a guide.  SCOPE AND CONTENTS: The papers relating to the administration of Arizona territory span the time from 1868 to statehood.  Transcripts of executive proceedings such as proclamations, pardons, election notices and letters sent by the governors are included.  The issues include the smuggling of arms to the Indians, a toll road through the Grand Canyon Forest reserve, the protection of Mexican citizens, statehood and national forests.  Materials prior to 1907 are arranged chronologically; later documents are classified by subject.  SUBJECTS: Arizona - History; United States - Territories; 19c; 20c

12. U. S. NATIONAL ARCHIVES. RETURNS FROM U. S. MILITARY POSTS, 1800-1916.    CALL NUMBER: Arizona Historical Microfilm.  Record Group 94 - M617; Northern Arizona University has full set of 1550 reels.  ASU has all reels dealing with Arizona.     NUMBER OF REELS/FICHE:  SCOPE AND CONTENTS: Records of various military outposts scattered throughout the Southwest during the years of the Indian wars.  The information includes number of soldiers, by rank, at each post; names of commissioned officers; orders received; and general comments about the post and its operations.  Reports were required to be filed monthly.  Each post is represented by its own set of reels and the organization of each reel is chronological.  SUBJECTS: Southwest; Arizona; United States - Indians; 19c; 20c
