This database excerpts the directory and financial data from the annual reports, 10-K reports, and other documents required by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Over 10,000 companies are covered. Ten years of annual financial data plus 2 years of quarterly data are included whenever available. Current stock ownership information is listed for institutional investors, 5% owners, and insiders. In addition, any "Management Discussion" and/or "President's Letter" found in a company's most recent annual report will also be included. Items can be searched by company name, personal name, industry/product, topic, and almost any data element in the directory information and financial tables. The latest update is also available on the library web as Global Access, which makes it more accessible, but it does not offer the more specialized search capabilities needed by some.

ONLINE ACCESS (Global Access)
Click on Business
EDGAR (Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval) is the result of the SEC mandating that U.S. public companies file certain reports, such as quarterly and 10K reports, electronically. All other reports not covered by these requirements, like annual reports to stockholders, may be submitted in print and/or electronically at the filer's discretion. Also foreign companies that report to the SEC are not required to file electronically but may do so if they choose. Note that the access to the EDGAR filings provided by Disclosure on Global Access offers search capabilities superior to those found at the free SEC web site for EDGAR and covers all years of the EDGAR archives instead of merely the last two. Paper copies of current annual reports for many Fortune 1000 and Arizona-based companies are available in Reserve by company name. Reports in Reserve can be identified by doing a title browse search with the company name in the ASU Library Catalog online. To obtain a copy of a company's most recent annual report, you may also write directly to the company, check the Internet for their company's web page, or try the Wall Street Research Network web site (see entry later in this subsection).

Also called Corporation Records, this provides the same basic type of information as the Moody's Manuals above. The companies are arranged alphabetically within each issue and the issues are then filed chronologically. The yellow index at the front of each volume leads to the pages a company appears on. The page shown in bold print is where the main entry on a company will be found. The blue index leads from divisions, subsidiaries, etc., to the parent company. Updates to the information in the main volumes appear in the "Daily News" volume. Since superseded issues are not saved, older information must be obtained from other sources such as the Moody's Manuals. Available electronically through LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe in their "Company Financial Information" section as one of the report types but can only be searched by company name.
