Retail Directories
These are not directories to individual stores. These are specialized directories to specific aspects of the retail industry with an emphasis on buyers, brokers, distributors, and major chain and specialty stores. These directories tend to have a geographic arrangement rather than arranged by company, although they do have company indexes. Additional directories in related areas can be found under Specialized Directories.

HD 9321.2 .M39x HAYDEN REFERENCE
This work is designed for the decision makers in the supermarket industry. Because it is arranged by metropolitan area and provides demographics on the area along with the supermarkets and their market share, it can be helpful for those deciding to relocate. To use this book, it is essential to look at the first pages of each of the spine marked pages. In each of these sections, the metropolitan area is defined differently. The first four sections are the market shares according to different commercial rating systems. The four systems included are Nielsen SCANTRACK, Nielsen DMA (TV Markets -- older editions used Arbitron ADI), U.S. Census Bureau MSA, and IRI Infoscan. The definition page and the "How to Use Sections 1-4" in the beginning of the book will explain the differences. Sections 5-6 are either the IRI Infoscan ratings list or the Nielsen version. This details categories of food, their total sales, and an index figure. There are several indexes in the back of the volume to assist in locating metropolitan areas.
