The scope of this publication does not include the following services: agricultural and forestry services, mining and extraction services, transportation and public utilities, wholesale and retail trade, finance, insurance, real estate, and public administration. A separate section gives city and metro area summary tables on tax status, number of establishments, payroll, receipts, sole proprietorship, and partnerships. Indexing is by company, organization, city, and occupation.

Classification definitions and examples are arranged by numeric code and an alphabetic index by industry leads to the proper code. Information on some individual companies is provided, as well as considerable statistical information, including an increasing number of ratios and market information. At the end of each "basic analysis" are statistical sections entitled: "Composite Industry Data" and "Comparative Company Analysis." This 2-volume set has indexes by industry segment and by company name in the front of each volume.

    Continues in part the U.S. Industrial Outlook (C 61.48 HAYDEN US DOCUMENTS) annual publication done by the U.S. Department of Commerce between 1984 and 1994. Covers industry groupings based on the SIC codes giving recent statistics, short-term forecasts, and analysis. The data is the result of a collaboration between DRI/McGraw-Hill, Standard & Poor's, and the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
