Electronic Periodicals

Newspapers

ArtDaily

ArtDaily is an electronic art newspaper that began publication in 1996. While publication was suspended for a time last year, it recently became active again. ArtDaily currently produces about ten to twelve new items a day concerning information on art fairs, artists, auctions, museums, exhibitions, and links to art magazines from around the world. ArtDaily is edited and published by Ignacio Villarreal of IVC, S.A. de C.V.An electronic art newspaper.

ARTNEWSPAPER.COM

This electronic periodical with current information concerning many aspects of the world of art, has a strong emphasis on art auction news including a schedule of art auctions, reviews of auctions, ratings of objects submitted for sale and other related market information. ARTNEWSPAPER.COM includes reviews of exhibitions and commentary on various facets of the art world. It also contains a section on stolen art and much, much more. This site emphasizes reports on European art activities and is edited by Daniel Garnier of G.R. Ltd.

la Republica of the Arts

While this electronic source is not as active as the previous two sites on a daily basis, it contains many current news items and interviews on the visual arts in Italian, English, and French. This site is one aspect of a larger site that contains an archive of well written and informative feature articles. La Republica of the Arts is a beautifully designed site published by Casa d'Aste S.p.A.

ABSOLUTEARTS

This web site adds about four to six new art related news items a day. Each item appears as a short summary in the left hand column and contains a hotlink to an in-depth article on the topic. In a column on the right side of the page are listed hotlinks to "This Week in the Arts." A search engine is provided to search the arts at this site by keyword. Absolutearts is international in scope and is sponsored by World Wide Arts Resources, Corp., who have also created and maintain a major gateway to the arts on the Internet (http://wwar.com//). Absolutearts also provides a newsletter to which one may subscribe to receive updates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. These periodic updates are also concurrently posted to the Absolutearts web site.

Asian Art Newspaper

Just as the title suggests, this site focuses on current events concerning the arts of Asia. The Asian Art Newspaper web site is designed by Karim Dahdah in Gent, Belgium and is associated with the print version published in London.

The New York Times: Arts & Leisure

There are now many major regional newspapers that publish in an electronic format. While the New York Times has a national edition and following, it still has a strong regional bias in their coverage of the arts. The Arts and Leisure section covers all of the arts, but a click on the hotlink "Art" in the section titled "WHAT'S HAPPENING IN NEWYORKTODAY" takes the viewer to a page containing information, reviews, and feature articles on current art, architecture, photography, and design exhibitions and topics. This very sophisticated site features a search engine for the reader's convenience in locating exhibitions by media, location, and date. There is a general search engine, an archive, and also the reader may click to review the past Sunday's Arts and Leisuresection. Viewers of this publication must register for the electronic edition of The New York Times, but there is no fee.

The Arizona Republic: Arts

museumworld news
