Gateway to Art History

A most remarkable web site! A very exhaustive listing of art history related websites. The global world of art is classified and indexed into five logical subdivisions in accordance with the organization of Gardner's Art through the Ages, a standard survey text of art published by Harcourt and Brace:

Part I. The Ancient World
Part II. The Middle Ages
Part III The World Beyond Europe
Part IV The Renaissance and the Baroque and Rococo
Part V The Modern World and Postmodern World


Additional information of interest to specialists in the field is to be found in the section titled Research Resources in Art History. While having some items of local interest, Jeffery Howe of the Fine Arts Department of Boston College covers the whole universe of art related topics available on the web (1200+ as of 27 June 1998). An alphabetically arranged index of hotlinks to the subjects covered at this site is conviently located at the top of the home page. Be sure to check out the list of Art Journals Online - forty some are listed!

The PartheNet

A shorter and well organized site covering the major European art historical periods with some information on Asian, Islamic, and Nineteenth Century American art. The PartheNet is the creation of Kathryn L. Conners at Mount Holyoke College.
