ASU Library Art Indexes Online

    Art Abstracts

    This source presently indexes more than 313 journals in various languages from September 1984 to the present and abstracts these journals back to January 1994. Art Abstracts is updated monthly. "All indexed articles and reviews with the exception of book reviews are abstracted." [Alison Dickey(Editor of Art Index). email to ARLIS-L 15 June 1998] Art Abstracts specifically covers the subjects of archaeology, architecture, art, film, humanities, photography, and marketing. For earlier articles on these subjects search the Art Index, the print version (see below) of Art Abstracts which indexes articles back to 1929. Both of these bibliographic utilities are produced by the H. W. Wilson Co.

    Humanities Abstracts

    This H. W. Wilson database indexes more than 400 english language periodicals covering art, archaeology, performing arts, classical studies, philosophy, history, music history, music, linguistics, literature, and religion. It is updated monthly and indexes back to 1984. The print version (see below) indexes back to 1974.

    ARTbibliographies Modern

    AbM adds about 24,000 abstracts a year concerning nineteenth and especially twentieth century art and related information from journals, monographs, exhibition catalogs, dissertations, and other publications. The major subjects covered are: architecture, collectiong and collectors, ceramics, costumes, drawing, education, exhibitions, folk art, furniture, glass, graphic design, iconography, interior design, museums and galleries, painting, photography, posters, prints, sculpture, textiles, and etc. Coverage of this electronic resource is from 1982 to the present. Refer to the print version (see below) for indexing back to 1974.

    Arts and Humanities Citation Index

    Published by The Institute for Scientific Information, the A&HCI indexes the citations of authors, articles, and works of art that occur in about 1150 art and humanities publications, selections fron 7000 scientific and social science journals, and other publications. The scope of disiplines covered is broad and includes: archaeology, architecture, art, Asian studies, classics, dance, folklore, history, language, linguistics, literary reviews, music, philosophy, poetry, radio, television, film, religion, and theater. The online version of the A&HCI covers citations back to 1982 while the print version (see below) goes back to 1975.

    Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals

    The AIAP indexes more than 1,000 periodicals published worldwide on archaeology, city planning, interior design, and historic preservation, as well as architecture. Updated daily, the online version of the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals indexes articles published from 1977 to the present. With more than 220,000 records, it is an important resource for articles on artworks associated with architectural monuments that are an intregral part of a building such as relief sculpture, murals, and mosaics.

    Bibliography of the History of Art

    The BHA indexes and abstracts writings on European and American art. The coverage is broad, covering "...more than 2000 periodicals published in 47 languages, as well as books, exhibition catalogs, conference proceedings, and bibliographies. All aspects of Western art are covered, including the traditional fine arts, decorative and applied arts, industrial design and architecture, popular and folk art, photography, performance art, and aspects of material culture of interest to art historians" This information is from a brochure provided by The Getty Information Institute which presently publishes this bibliographic utility in conjunction with the Center National de la Recherche Scientifique. The publication of BHA was began in 1991 after the merger of the International Repertory of the Literature of Art (RILA) and Repertoire d'Art et d'Archeologie (RAA) in 1989. The online version of the BHA covers citations back to 1973.

    PCI/Periodical Contents Index

    PCI/Periodical Contents Index is a database that has indexed over ten million articles in nearly 3000 periodicals in the humanities and social sciences. These journals are indexed from their first issue(in some cases, these go back to 1770) to 1990/91.

    IBZ/Internationale Bibliographie der Zeitschriftenliterature

    TheIBZ/Internationale Bibliographie der Zeitschriftenliteratur(International Bibliography of Periodical Literature) is an index that covers many fields of research but emphasizes the social sciences and humanities. Over 2 million articles are indexed from around 11,000 periodicals in many languages, particularly European. This database covers articles back from 1984 to the present and is updated monthy.

    The print version of the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals is the most comprehensive index of articles concerned with various aspects of architecture in Western languages.
