United Nations Documents

In addition to U.S. Federal and Arizona State and Local Government Documents, Government Documents Service also receives and collects publications issued by the official bodies of the United Nations, i.e., the General Assembly, Security Council, Secretariat, Economic and Social Council, and Trusteeship Council. United Nations documents include reports of activities, proceedings of meetings, and reports of special research. The statistical sources are of special value to the researcher since they are worldwide in scope.

Many UN publications are received in paper format and are cataloged for inclusion in the ASU Libraries Catalog. The majority of UN publications are received in microfiche and are filed in microfiche cabinets next to the paper UN collection. UN documents are indexed in UNDOC (United Nations Documents Index), a paper catalog located in the Government Documents Service reference area. The primary index is AccessUN.

Many statistical publications issued by the UN are indexed in Index to International Statistics (IIS) available through the Statistical Universe, which also indexes statistical information from over eighty other intergovernmental organizations. All publications indexed in IIS are located in the IIS Microforms Service, Hayden Library Lower Level.

Publications of independent agencies of the United Nations, such as UNICEF, WHO, or FAO, are not included in the UN collection of Government Documents Service. Independent agencies are listed in the ASU Libraries Catalog and are shelved in the general collections of Hayden and Noble Libraries.

United Nations information is also available on the Internet.
