The Arizona State College campus patrol, organized in 1948, were students who patrolled the campus and worked closely with night watchmen and Tempe police. ASC campus was included in the Tempe police jurisdiction in 1951 and the campus patrol, which consisted of 10 students, became authorized police. The university campus security was authorized by the Arizona Legislature as an independent state police organization in 1967.
