Engineering for Excellence was coined by leaders of industry, government and education in Arizona who recognized the need to improve competitive advantage in the area of technology. Together, they identified the steps toward progress and devised a 5-year plan of implementation. In 1983, completion of the five story Engineering Research Center was the gauge of success.
