Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

 

Section 508 was written and added to the Rehabilitation Act in 1986. It establishes requirements for any electronic and information technology developed, maintained, procured, or used by the Federal government. Then in 1998, there was a new Section 508 inserted into the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. This new Section 508 was also added into the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998.
