If you feel that a library fine or charge is not justified, you may appeal it by writing a letter.
Before writing, please obtain and read a copy of the Libraries' Loan Policy. This policy has been reviewed and approved by the faculty and student representatives of the University Libraries Fines Appeal Committee. It is strictly enforced for all borrowers.
Appeals must be made within one year of billing.
Your letter must include the following information:
Please include all relevant information in as much detail as possible. Also include copies of any necessary documentation.
Address your appeal to the Head of Access Services, Hayden Library, at the following address.
University Libraries
Arizona State University
PO Box 871006
Tempe, AZ 85287-1006
Your appeal will be carefully reviewed and investigated. This process cannot be completed hastily, so you should not expect an immediate decision. If you are blocked from checking out needed library materials, you may request a temporary clearance from Circulation when you have submitted your written appeal. This waiver, however, will not clear any blocks with other University offices. The Head of Access Services will notify you in writing of the decision and the action taken. The channel for appealing library fines beyond the Head of Access Services is: University Libraries Appeals Officer, University Libraries Fines Appeal Committee. Appeals submitted by Community Card borrowers are reviewed internally and not sent to the University Libraries Fines Appeal Committee. Appeals must progress in this order.
