Q: How do I get my ASU email from home?
A: If you are an under graduate student, you can find a quick overview on accessing your email in Introduction to Student email Use at ASU. (Note: This is a PDF file and requires Acrobat Reader to view.) More in-depth information on accessing email at ASU for all ASU affiliates is available on The Mailbox website.
Q: How do I download to and from my AFS space?
A: There are several ways you can access your AFS space. The options are dependent on the operating system and the type of network connection you are using to connect to ASU (PPP or ASCII). You can find detailed information on our OpenAFS Documentation web page. Select the appropriate document for your Operating System.
Q: What type of Dial-up Application do I need to connect to ASU?
A: Dial-up options and applications are dependent on your operating system and eligibility. Please go to our Modem Access web pages for detailed information.
Q: Why does PPP not always connect?
A: If your connection is intermittent or always worked before and no dial-in configurations have changed, then the problem could be that there is a bad modem line at ASU. However, if your connection has never worked then it could be the dial-in software configuration or the modem is not working properly. You can submit your dial-in problem at Ask IT or call the Help Desk at 480.965.6500.
Q: On my MAC, why does my Global Village modem always drop my connection?
A: When dialing in, make sure that within your Teleport Control Panel, the v.42bis correction and compression option is selected. In addition, also, check the obvious such as making sure that the phone line is plugged into the modem properly.
Q: What phone number am I supposed to dial in to reach ASU?
A: Full instructions on accessing ASU can be found on our Modem Access web pages.
Q: Why does my modem not respond or have a dial tone?
A: For the modem to work properly, you need to make sure that it is recognized by the operating system. Consult your modem manual to ensure that it is installed properly. In addition, make sure that the phone line is inserted securely into the modem and wall jack.
