Adaptive Technology Resources

[Disability Accomodations logo: blue stylized drawing of person in wheelchair]

Information Technology (IT) provides a variety of Adaptive Technology (AT) for student use in the computing sites and classrooms. The Computing Commons Atrium site is open longer hours and is centrally located, housing the majority of AT equipment. IT staff will make accommodations for students in any computing site or classroom with the assistance of the Disability Resources for Students office as requested. Disability Resources for Students can be reached at 480-965-1234. All AT workstations have the symbol at left posted on the desk. Students requiring AT resources have priority on the designated workstations.

Resources for Computing Sites

Sites supporting equipment checkout are Computing Commons Atrium, GWC 185, ECG 150, and BAC 16. Staff are available for assistance and items can be checked out from the help center counters. Computing Commons Atrium also offers audible rocker buttons for customers who need assistance at their workstation. In addition, some reference material is available in Braille, and large print.

Students using PC classrooms in the Computing Commons have access to the IT mobile cart. The cart is equipped with a Dell Pentium III 667 MHz computer. Special software or hardware accomodations can be arranged using the mobile PC. The cart is designed for easy access to the IT network in the Computing Commons classrooms. Arrangements for help with the IT mobile cart as well as any other AT equipment for computer classrooms can be made by calling 480-965-3342, stopping by room 105 in the Computing Commons or e-mailing classroom.support@asu.edu.

All AT workstations (computing sites and classrooms) have access to the general site software. For a complete list of site software refer to the computing sites software list. Also, all in the IT Sites and classrooms have Jaws and Zoom Text installed.
