inReview

inReview is a semiannual online publication that focuses on reviews of textbooks used in college composition classrooms. inReview is a resource and space for discussion among composition teachers, students, administrators and textbook publishers. This first set of reviews focuses on what we call "Big Books."

Unlike a journal that publishes “issues” every so often, each inReview focuses on a specific area of writing instruction (argument texts, business & professional writing, readers, writing about literature, etc.) and provides multiple reviews of each text.

inReview welcomes comments and feedback from textbook authors and users and invites users to provide strategies and teaching suggestions that they’ve found to be effective, for each particular textbook. Culling multiple reviews from a diversity of perspectives and practical ideas for using individual texts, inReview will become an increasingly useful resource over time.

The editors of inReview see textbooks and the college writing classroom as a place of interaction between teachers, students, textbook authors, and text publishers and therefore solicit participation from each of these constituencies:

For teachers, inReview provides textbook reviews for a wide range of current college writing texts. Once we have reviews published, teachers are encouraged to provide feedback on the text(s) you use: what do you find useful in the text? Problematic? What assignments or areas work especially well for you and your students? What changes would you like to see?

For your students: if you wish, your students can be part of this ongoing conversation. inReview gives them the chance to voice their thoughts and ideas on the textbook you’re using: what’s useful and what’s not so useful, from a student’s perspective.

For textbook authors, inReview gives you insight into how your texts are being used, what users see as the most effective parts of your work, what areas users would like to see improvement in, for your next edition, and so on. We also welcome feedback on the reviews from textbook authors.

For textbook publishers, inReview provides feedback on the texts you publish and unique and important insight into the way texts are used and adapted by teachers and into student reaction to texts. We gladly welcome feedback from publishers on our reviews.
