Lisa J. Phalen | Director, Talent Management

Lisa Phalen leads the Leadership and Workforce Development, Recruitment and Selection, Diversity and Affirmative Action, and Employee Communications functions.  She provides consultation on organizational competencies and performance management, change management, University culture initiatives, executive coaching, strategic planning, organizational design and employee engagement.  Lisa works with her team to create and deliver leadership development programs, the New Employee Orientation Program, and the Employee Recognition and Reward Programs.  The team also manages the  Learning Management System and customer interactions related to setting up training.

Lisa has held a leadership role within the Human Resources field for more than 20 years.  Although her background is broad-based, Lisa has a real passion for Organizational Effectiveness and Employee Relations.  She has worked in the hospitality, healthcare and finance industries and also taught college-level business courses for more than 20 years.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from ASU and a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management.  Lisa is certified by the Human Resources Certification Institute as a Senior Professional in HR and has taught others in the program to prepare them for the certification exam.

Linda Uhley coordinates and facilitates the New Employee Orientation program that welcomes and orients new employees to ASU. Linda also facilitates professional development opportunities, such as True Colors, DiSC - Understanding Behavioral Styles and Recognition and Rewards, to enhance effective communication and employee performance.

Linda promotes the recognition and celebration of employee contributions and commitment as she manages ASU's Employee Recognition Program, which consists of four award programs and three celebrations. She facilitates a Writers' Briefing in December for employees who are applying for the President's Medal for Social Embeddedness, the President’s Award for Sustainability and the President's Award for Innovation.

Linda received a Bachelor's degree from Azusa Pacific University and a Master's degree in English from California Polytechnic University, Pomona. Prior to coming to ASU, she taught English composition and literature at Cal Poly, Pomona and Albion College.

Amelia Huggins | Program Coordinator Senior

Amelia Huggins is Program Coordinator Sr. for the Leadership and Workforce Development Team. She is developing the leadership development program, called Leadership in the New American University (LINAU). The program will train new supervisors, mid-level and senior leaders, as well as emerging leaders within the university.

Amelia has worked in a marketing and client relations capacity for nearly 10 years and uses her organizational and program coordinating skills to support her program and the respective areas within her team for the collective good of the university. Amelia is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree in Marketing from ASU's W.P. Carey School of Business.

Janina Kokins  is an Administrative Associate for the Diversity and Leadership and Workforce Development Teams.  She assists with the Learning Management System (LMS), training room logistics and Leadership in the New American University (LINAU). Janina has worked for several units at ASU, including Media Relations & Public Information and Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action.  She is an ASU graduate with a B.S. from the W. P. Carey School of Business.

Jeff Franco is a Student Assistant in the Leadership and Workforce Development Group. He assists in general training, learning management services, new employee orientation, the employee recognition program and leadership development. He also provides general office assistance. Jeff is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a minor in Mathematics at ASU.

He plans to attend graduate school to complete a PhD in Economics and then pursue a career in academia or in business. Jeff previously worked as a Student Assistant at the School of Computing and Informatics at ASU’s Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering. He joined LPSG in April 2008.

Erin Crum | Office Assistant/Student Worker

Erin Crum joined the Leadership and Workforce Development Group as a Student Assistant in August 2009. Prior to this position, she worked for a private human resources firm as a recruiter. She also has worked in the real estate industry in sales and marketing. Erin recently returned to school to finish a Bachelor of Liberal Studies at ASU. She assists the LWD group with projects related to employee recognition, new employee orientation, leadership trainings and learning management systems. She plans to attend graduate school in Fall 2010.
