The Sun Devil Award for Service recognizes the contributions of employees who are retiring with five or more years of continuous service to ASU by providing retirement certificates. Departments may obtain framed retirement certificates for their employees by completing and submitting a Retirement Certificate Request Form to Human Resources, Mail Code 5612, ATTN: Linda Uhley. Certificates may be requested at any time during the year.
Departments are encouraged to present awards of service to employees in a meaningful way at the department's recognition celebration. Please see "Recognition Presentation Tips" below.
For more information about Retirement Certificates, please contact Linda Uhley at (480) 965-5089 or linda.uhley@asu.edu.
Keeping Human Resources Informed
In September, a representative from your department will receive a list from Human Resources that contains the names of employees who will be celebrating years-of-service anniversaries from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. A Retirement Certificate Request Form will be included with this correspondence. Your assistance with identifying eligible award recipients and retirees is appreciated.
Planning the Presentation of an Award
How a recognition award is presented can be more important and meaningful than the award itself. The retirement certificate is a token of appreciation given in recognition of the employee’s years of dedicated service to Arizona State University. The goal is to make the award recipient feel valued and connected to ASU.
Prior to the Presentation
Prepare a thoughtful presentation that contains key information about the employee being honored, including:
During the Presentation
Make the presentation a meaningful celebration that honors the award recipients for their ongoing commitment to ASU. Highlight their individual contributions and show how their accomplishments support department and University goals. Involve peers in the celebration to build camaraderie and a spirit of community. Make the award recipient feel valued!
