FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where do responsibilities fall when an employee is called for Jury Duty or as a Material Witness?
Both the employee and the supervisor are responsible for ensuring that the business needs of the department are met when supporting the leave:

  • the employee must inform the supervisor and provide documentation of the summons or subpeona immediately so that proper coverage may be arranged
  • the employee and the supervisor should remain in communication so that proper department coverage may be maintained in the event that the jury service or testimony is extended for any length of time
  • if the jury duty or testimony does not require the absence of a full day, arrangements should be made for the employee to work partial days

What if the employee is subpeonaed as a result of a personal matter?
If the subpeona is a result of a personal matter, the employee must use vacation leave, compensatory time or leave without pay. If there are questions as to whether the request is considered a personal matter, contact your HR Consultant.

How is an employee paid on jury duty?
The employee is paid at their regular salary. The employee must remit fees received for jury duty less travel expenses to Cashiering Services. Please contact Cashiering Services for all information regarding remittance.

How is the leave recorded?
The employee can record the leave on their Timesheet that is accessed through My ASU. A supervisor or DTA can record leave on behalf of the employee on the employee’s timesheet located in Manager Self Service.

For help on entering time through Manager Self Service, please review the DTA Quick Reference Guide. For help entering leave after the pay period end date has occurred, please use the Time Adjustment form or contact your Payroll Specialist.
