FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What constitutes a conflict of interest for an ASU employee?
Any private interest or gain to an employee that is in direct opposition with the best interest of the university. An employee who works in an area that makes decisions about student admissions or scholarships, for example, may not review their child's application for determination.

An employee who works in the trades area and makes decisions on outside contractors may not review bids from a relative.

How is a conflict of interest determined?
It is the responsibility of each employee to understand the rules surrounding conflicts of interest. The ASU Office of General Counsel offers a comprehensive Conflict of Interest page.
