What are the conditions of Service Professional Appointments?
When hired into a Service Professional job, certain conditions apply to this employment category as stated in the Notice of Appointment.

What is the "Notice of Appointment"?
It is the contract under which the Service Professional employee is employed at ASU. A Service Professional employee accepts the terms and conditions, based on SPP 320: Conditions of Service Professional Service, by accepting the notice of appointment.

Are contracts renewed at the same time each year?
Yes, contracts are renewed at the beginning of each fiscal year (July 1).

Is there a notification of non-renewal?
Service Professional employees are given written notice of non-renewal at least 90 days prior to July 1. If the non-renewal is given within the appointment period but less than 90 days, the employee's salary will be continued for 90 days from the date of notification. If notice is not given within the appointment period (contract year), the contract is automatically renewed.

Is there a difference in benefits for the Service Professional appointed employee versus Classified employee?
Benefits for a Service Professional employee are similar except for vacation accrual and the eligibility to enroll in an Optional Retirement Plan.

What ASU policies are relevant to Service Professional appointees?
As noted in the applicability portion of each policy, the Staff Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual is for Classified, Service Professional, and Administrative employees of ASU. In addition, policies from various other ASU Policies and Procedures Manuals are also applicable to Service Professional appointees.
