Mandatory retirement (ASRS, ORP, or PSPRS) enrollment must be completed within 30 days of eligibility by all faculty and staff.

  • ASRS and PSPRS are effective on the first day of eligibility.
  • ORP is effective the first day of the pay period following completion of enrollment*—provided faculty, academic and service professionals, and administrators enroll no later than 30 days from date of hire or when they become eligible for this plan.

Benefits (health, life, disability, and FSA coverage) are effective the first day of the pay period following completion of enrollment*—provided faculty and staff enroll no later than 31 days from date of hire or when they become eligible for benefits.

IMPORTANT:  According to IRS regulations and Arizona State plan provisions, benefits cannot be made effective retroactively.  Therefore, hiring managers should process all department and employee paperwork immediately, so benefits are available as quickly as possible.

* Completion of enrollment means all documentation is received in the HR Benefits Office.    New Hires/Newly Eligible Employees enroll for Retirement using forms and Benefits online.  When the system is unavailable during Open Enrollments (approximately August through December), benefits enrollment forms will be made available.
