Doctoral Student & Graduate Teaching Assistant
Herberger College of the Arts; School of Music

Jelena Vladikovic was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia. She began her concert career at the age of 15, after winning the most prestigious music competition in Yugoslavia. She went on to win several other national competitions, and continued performing career that spanned two continents and two decades. Jelena is also the first place winner at the Washington International Piano Artist Competition; in July 2007 she became the first woman to win this competition in the WIPAC history. She also won the second place, Press Jury Award and The Best of Baroque Award at the Rocky Mountain International Piano Competition in August of 2007.

When her son was two years old, Jelena retired from active performing to pursue family life and teach, but soon after she went back to school and obtained a journalism degree. She worked as a print and broadcast journalist in Vancouver, Canada, then started her own PR/Communications consulting business. For nearly 18 years she divided her time between her PR business and her music school in Vancouver Canada. She came to Phoenix, AZ in 2002 when her son, an exceptional competitive swimmer, was invited to train with the Phoenix Swim Club.

She holds Bachelor of Music degree from University of Arts, Belgrade, Serbia, and Master of Music degree in piano performance from University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. She studied with some the world's most distinguished pianists and pedagogues, such as Evgeny Timakin (Moscow Central Music School), Pavel Serebryakov (Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory of Music, St. Petersburg), Guido Agosti (Santa Cecilia Music Academy in Rome), François Glorieux (Antwerp Royal Conservatory of Music, Belgium), and Robert Silverman (UBC, Vancouver, Canada). Jelena Vladikovic recently returned to school and is currently pursuing Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and pedagogy at Herberger College School of Music under the direction of Dr. Baruch Meir and Dr. Janice Thompson.

Last year Jelena served as a National Relations Director and she is looking forward to serving the ASU graduate and profesional students' community in her new role and continued work with the GPSA Assembly and Executive.
