Checklist
Your application may be revised and edited until it is submitted. You must click submit in Step 4 by the deadline to be eligible. To edit a started application or begin a new application with an existing profile, go to www.nimble-net.com/gpsa and log on.
- Create a profile in the Nimble-Net system.
- Select "2009 GPSA Research Grant Program" from the drop down list.
- Click "Start a new application" from the Action Menu.
- Step 1: Enter your application data.
- Step 2: Add a co-applicant to your application and agree to the program rules.
- Step 3: Answer all of the application questions.
- Step 4: Review your application and submit.
- To continue with a saved application, from the Project Action Menu click "Work on your application." Then go to Step 4: Review and Submit.
- You should receive an email confirmation that your application was submitted.
If you forget your password, click “forgot password” to change it. If you forget your username, click “forgot username” and it will be sent to your profile email address. Your spam filter might block our e-mails to you. Be sure to add help@nimble-net.com to your address book to receive important communications.
Creating a Profile. All applicants must create a profile and provide the following information in the system. If you are a returning user, you should view or edit your profile to make sure it’s current.

- ASU Affiliate Identification Number
- Mailing address

Step 1: Application Data
- Brief Summary of your Request – Provide a 1-3 sentence summary of your request. This information is for reference only. It will not be judged.
- Requested Amount (up to $2,000)
- TA/RA Status (for data collection only) – Select one: Teaching Assistant or Associate, Research Assistant or Associate, Other Student Employee
- Are you an International Student? (for data collection only)
- Degree Sought (for data collection only) – Select one: Master’s Degree, Professional Degree, Doctorate, Other
- Anticipated Graduation Date (date format MM/DD/YYYY)
Step 2: Application Team
- To modify your contact information, click the "Update your contact information" link.
- You may add co-applicants to your team. Click the links below "Co-Applicants" to add/delete co-applicants.
- Enter the first name, last name, and email address of your co-applicant.
- Review the email to be sent to your co-applicant with information about the application and click “submit”.
- All co-applicants must log on to complete a profile and meet eligibility requirements to receive this grant.
- Click "Agree to rules" to review the program rules and to accept or decline.

- Type of Application – Terminal research is for a masters’ thesis or doctoral dissertation. Independent research is outside of the regular curriculum. (Select one: Terminal up to $2,000 or Independent up to $750)

- Applicant’s Contribution – The percentage of your contribution (or your team’s contribution) to the whole project.
- Human Participants – Does this study involve research using human participants?
- Animal Subjects – Does this study involve research using animal subjects?
- IRB Approval – If you answered yes to Question 5 or 6, have you ever applied for and received approval from the appropriate institutional review board at Arizona State University? If not, please explain.

- All applicants for a Research Grant must complete page 3. Media and Fine Arts Applicants click next and complete all questions on Page 4. GPSA uses a blind peer review judging process. Your answers to these questions should not include any identifying information. Applications with identifying information will be rejected.
- Is this a research grant for an empirical or investigative study? Check Yes. (For a non-empirical, performance, demonstration, or media-related grant click next at the bottom of the page.)
- Problem Issues - Critically evaluate the existing knowledge that relates to this proposal, including your own preliminary work. Identify new information your proposed research will accomplish with respect to deficits in knowledge. Briefly state the importance of this work.
- Ethical Considerations - Describe in detail any special consideration you have given to all ethical issues involved in your proposed investigations. If applicable, indicate the nature of the informed consent. If none, please indicate.
- Hypotheses or Research Question(s) - Please list your hypothesis(es) or your research question. If none of the above, please indicate your intended goal(s) with this research.
- Design, Methodology, Structure, Materials - Describe the design and procedures you will use to accomplish the specific aims and hypotheses listed. Justify the methods you propose to use detailing the strengths and possible limitations. Provide details about the analysis, equipment, facilities, participants, instruments, supplies, resources, and anticipated timetables. List any procedure or conditions that may pose a hazard to humans and describe what precautions you will employ to minimize risks to human health (i.e., IRB approval number).
- Anticipated Problems - Describe briefly any difficult experimental problems that must be overcome in order to successfully accomplish the goals of this research project (i.e., travel, translations, hard to find resources). Discuss potential approaches to overcoming these anticipated difficulties. If none, please indicate.
- Consequences or Implications - Describe any outcome you may anticipate. How will it benefit your field of research, what may be the expectation of future research?
- Time Frame - Describe your expected time frame for the completion of the project in as much detail as possible.
- References - List only those references cited in your proposal. References should be complete and follow the appropriate format for the applicant's field of study. To accommodate the blind review process, applicant should use the word “Author” in citations with identifying information.
Step 3: Page 4: Media and Fine Arts
- All applicants for a Media and Fine Arts grant must complete page 4. Research Grant Applicants click next to continue. GPSA uses a blind peer review judging process. Your answers to these questions should not include any identifying information. Applications with identifying information will be rejected.
- Is this a media or fine arts grant proposal? For a non-empirical, performance, demonstration, or media-related project check yes.
- Project Focus - Critically evaluate the existing knowledge/content that relates to your proposed work, including your own preliminary work in this area. Identify new information your proposed project will provide, with respect to deficits in the existing work or knowledge. State the importance of your work in the overall context of its field.
- Objectives - What are the goals of your project? What is the basis for your work?
- Present Training and Knowledge - Briefly explain how your background leads you to the proposed work and how it relates to your past work and other work in this field.
- Uniqueness - How is this project going to be different from others in your field? How does it add to your field?
- Medium, Equipment, Facilities, Instruments, Supplies, and Resources - Describe in detail the design and procedures you will use to accomplish the specific goals listed. Justify the methods you propose to use detailing their strengths and possible limitations.
- Method of Presentation - How will you present your work? Be specific.
- Time Frame - Describe your expected time frame for the completion of the project in as much detail as possible.
- References - List only those references cited in your proposal. References should be complete and follow the appropriate format for the applicant's field of study. To accommodate the blind review process, applicant should substitute the word “Author” in citations with identifying information (e.g., Author, 2003).
- Portfolio Information - If you are submitting a portfolio, please provide (1) a summary of materials being submitted, (2) a list of materials included in the portfolio, (3) equipment required to present your portfolio or performance, (4) special instructions for handling your portfolio/performance presentation.

Please provide an itemized budget for your total amount requested. Enter your budget items in priority order with a justification and description for each budget item. Accuracy and prioritization will help GPSA ensure that funds are available to researchers with the most need. GPSA may fund part of your grant, if full funding is not available.
